Ligue 1: PSG edge Nantes 1-0

1 Min Read

Vitinha’s heavily deflected strike ensured Paris Saint-Germain began their Ligue 1 title defence on a winning note, edging Nantes 1-0 on the road.

The champions dictated play for long spells in the first half but struggled to find a breakthrough against a disciplined Nantes backline.

Their closest effort before the interval came when Gonçalo Ramos rattled the crossbar with a fierce drive from a tight angle.

Midway through the second period, PSG’s persistence finally paid off. Vitinha unleashed a hopeful effort from distance that ricocheted off a defender and wrong-footed the goalkeeper, nestling into the net.

Ramos thought he had doubled the advantage shortly after when he rifled home from Vitinha’s pass, but VAR chalked the goal off for offside in the build-up.

Luis Enrique’s men ultimately needed a touch of luck to secure all three points, and while the display was far from vintage, the result keeps them on track as they chase a fifth straight Ligue 1 crown.
