The Lagos Waste Management Authority has sealed off DONALD’S Restaurant, a popular nightlife establishment located in Lekki Phase 1, for illegally dumping refuse in the neighborhood.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the action followed a report from the Lekki Estate Residents Association which raised the alarm about a suspicious vehicle dumping waste along Durosimi-Etti Street.

“A white Ford van with Abuja number plate GWA 136E was caught dumping refuse indiscriminately. Our investigation traced the vehicle back to DONALD’S Restaurant on Road 14,” Wahab stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

He added that the estate’s security team apprehended the individuals involved and took them to the LERA Secretariat. “There was even an attempt to bribe the security personnel with ₦100,000, which they firmly rejected,” Wahab disclosed.

Responding swiftly, LAWMA’s Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, directed the Monitoring and Compliance team to the location. The premises were sealed immediately following confirmation of environmental infractions.

Gbadegesin emphasized the need for commercial operators to comply with waste disposal regulations, noting that many businesses in the area have failed to register with designated Private Sector Participants (PSPs).

“Illegal dumping, especially during off-peak hours, has become a recurring problem in Lekki Phase 1,” he said. “This enforcement sends a clear message to all defaulters that non-compliance will not be tolerated.”

Wahab commended the proactive efforts of LERA and affirmed that the arrested individuals would be prosecuted. He also urged residents and businesses to maintain proper waste management practices to support the state’s environmental goals.

LAWMA reiterated its commitment to working with community associations to curb indiscriminate waste disposal and promote a cleaner Lagos.
