The final burial rites for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will take place on Friday, August 9, 2025. Dignitaries from across Nigeria, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, are expected to attend the funeral service scheduled to hold at St. Peter’s Church, Aremo, Ibadan.

According to the Olubadan Palace Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Ayoade, a significant highlight of the funeral ceremony will be the presentation of a commemorative book in honour of the late monarch.

The book, titled “How Not to Be a King”, will be unveiled during a reception at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

“The book was originally intended to mark Kabiyesi’s 90th birthday and his coronation anniversary,” Ayoade stated.

“Unfortunately, the plans were altered following his passing on July 7.”

He explained that the publication chronicles the monarch’s life, leadership journey, and contributions to the unity and development of Ibadanland.

“It offers personal reflections and heartfelt tributes from family members, close associates, and members of the Olubadan Advisory Council,” Ayoade added.

In the lead-up to the burial, activities have intensified at the monarch’s residence in Alalubosa GRA, Aleshiloye, and the Central Palace at Oke Aremo.

Oba Olakulehin was widely regarded for his deep commitment to peace, cultural preservation, and the progress of Ibadanland during his reign as the 43rd Olubadan.
