The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the second phase of rehabilitation on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge, inward Island, scheduled to start on Wednesday, September 3.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured the public that a well-structured traffic management plan has been put in place to reduce gridlock and make commuting easier during the period of repairs.

Osiyemi explained that the experience from the initial phase of the project prompted a more detailed review of diversion measures, ensuring that the upcoming stage would be carried out with minimal inconvenience to road users and delivered within the shortest possible timeframe.

Sharing highlights of the traffic advisory, the Commissioner noted that vehicles approaching from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate en route to Oshodi or Victoria Island would enjoy free movement along most of the stretch.

However, at the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge construction point, traffic will be funneled into a single lane of the three-lane carriageway about 50 metres before the site, before being restored to full access 50 metres past the zone.

He further advised, “Motorists heading to Oshodi [should] use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road, inward Anthony (by Taxi Park), and continue their journey to Oshodi.”

For those travelling toward Victoria Island, Osiyemi outlined two options, “using the Ojota Slip Road through Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony by Town Planning Way), then proceeding via Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge, or continuing on Ikorodu Road toward Funsho Williams Avenue to connect Eko Bridge.”

He also directed motorists from Ikeja and surrounding areas, saying, “Motorists coming from Ikeja and adjoining areas en route to Oshodi or Victoria Island are advised to connect Maryland to link Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue before proceeding through Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. They may also access Ikorodu Road via Anthony (by Taxi Park) to reach Oshodi directly.”

The Commissioner stressed that the revised traffic plan was designed to strengthen coordination along the corridor, calling on drivers to cooperate with traffic personnel, respect lane discipline, and make use of the approved alternative routes.
