The Lagos State Government has ordered contractors working on the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway to halt operations on Thursday, 4th December 2025, and resume in January 2026.
The decision aims to ease traffic flow during the festive season.
The suspension affects the stretch from Admiralty Way Junction to the Jubilee Bridge section (Ajah) in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Tuesday during an inspection of the roadworks.
He was accompanied by Special Adviser to the Governor, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, representatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the contractor, Messrs CRCC, among others.
Osiyemi explained that, “The suspension of rehabilitation work on the axis has become necessary to ward off the attendant gridlock, aimed at creating seamless vehicular movement during the Yuletide period.”
In a related development, the State Government is set to launch regulated bus operations along the Lekki–Epe corridor starting 8th December 2025.
The first phase of the Lekki–Epe Bus Reform Scheme will deploy 229 high- and medium-capacity buses.
According to Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, which announced the plan on its X handle on Tuesday, the rollout will provide exclusive, government-regulated services along key routes including Ajah–CMS/Marina, Ajah–Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger, and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.
LAMATA noted that one operator will manage an express service, while others will run stage-by-stage routes to ensure wide commuter coverage.
All buses will feature Lagos’ signature blue-and-white colours, QR-enabled PTCS verification stickers, unique identification codes, and Touch and Pay stickers to facilitate seamless transactions.
“The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, LAMATA, and representatives of informal bus operators have concluded a final stakeholder meeting ahead of the commencement of the regulated bus operations on the Lekki–Epe corridor,” the authority confirmed.
