Lagos shuts public parks for maintenance, upgrades

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency has announced the temporary closure of all public parks under its management across the state to enable routine maintenance and upgrade works.

In a statement issued on January 9, LASPARK said the parks would be closed to members of the public from January 12 to January 31, 2026, following increased use of the facilities during the recent festive period.

According to the agency, the decision was taken to ensure that the parks remain safe, clean and fit for recreational use.

“The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency has approved the temporary closure of all LASPARK-managed parks across Lagos State to allow for essential maintenance and upgrade works,” the statement read.

The agency listed several popular recreational centres that will be affected by the closure, including Ndubisi Kanu Park, Alausa Johnson Jakande Tinubu Park, Dr. Finnih Abayomi Park in Oregun, as well as other parks under its supervision across the state.

LASPARK explained that the maintenance activities would include landscaping, repairs of facilities and general improvements aimed at enhancing users’ experience.

“The temporary shutdown is necessary to carry out essential landscaping, facility repairs and general upgrades to ensure the parks remain safe, clean and enjoyable for residents and visitors,” the agency stated.

The agency added that the exercise aligns with its mandate to promote wellness and environmental sustainability through well-maintained green spaces.
