Lead Pastor of The Elevation Church, Godman Akinlabi, has advised Christians to be more deliberate about the music they consume, warning against blending gospel and secular sounds.
In a video shared on Instagram via @therealchurchgist, Akinlabi emphasised that music carries spiritual weight and should be carefully chosen, especially in a period when many people are seeking hope, guidance and encouragement.
“We cannot be in a season where people are complaining and we are still playing and singing the wrong music,” the cleric said.
He further warned against attempts to merge gospel and worldly music, stressing that both should remain separate.
“You cannot mix both Christian and worldly songs. It will not work,” Akinlabi stated.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his stance while others questioned the place of secular music in the lives of Christians.
Akinlabi is widely recognised for his teachings on faith, leadership and personal development, which he shares through sermons and public speaking engagements.
