The Lagos State Government has apprehended 36 individuals involved in street trading, including 34 men and 2 women, during a joint enforcement exercise conducted by the Lagos Waste Management Agency and officials from the KAI.
The suspects were caught selling goods on the median of Ojo-Alaba Road, following a clearance operation prompted by concerns over market conditions.
Kunle Adeshina, spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, stated in a Saturday release, “This enforcement followed a recent inspection of the Alaba Rago Market led by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, who expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the market environment and issued an ultimatum to traders occupying the median to relocate.”
The clearance operation was launched after the expiration of the deadline given to roadside traders to vacate the area.
Adeshina further confirmed that “the arrested individuals will soon be charged to court as part of ongoing efforts to maintain order and hygiene on Lagos roads.”
The Lagos State Government continues to intensify its campaign against illegal street trading to ensure safer and cleaner urban spaces.
