The Lagos State Government has announced emergency repair works on the damaged section of the Maryland Independence Bridge wall and expansion joints. Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi disclosed on Thursday that the repairs would be conducted from Saturday, August 16 to Tuesday, August 19, 2025, between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. daily.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the three-night repair period. Vehicles traveling inbound towards Oshodi/Ojuelegba/Stadium/Lagos will be diverted at Maria Lodge in Maryland onto the Maryland Bridge, connecting to Idiroko and continuing towards Anthony. This diversion is necessary as the main carriageway will be completely closed during repair hours.

“The partial road closure is part of the traffic management plan for the rehabilitation and replacement works on the expansion joints of the Maryland Independence Bridge,” Osiyemi explained. He noted that motorists heading inbound Ketu/Ikorodu from Lagos/Stadium/Anthony would experience normal, unimpeded traffic flow.

The Commissioner assured that adequate traffic management personnel would be deployed to the affected areas to minimize inconvenience and regulate vehicular movement. He appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and follow their directives to ensure smooth traffic operations during the repair period.

Osiyemi emphasized that the temporary nighttime closures were carefully scheduled to reduce disruption to commuters while allowing for necessary infrastructure maintenance. The state government advised road users to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes during the specified repair hours.
