Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, came to a virtual standstill on Tuesday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived to commission key infrastructure projects executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration.

In anticipation of the president’s visit, public and private schools across Lafia metropolis were closed, keeping pupils at home despite no official public holiday being declared. Civil servants and business owners also stayed away from their usual activities, bringing the city’s daily operations to a halt.

Hundreds of residents, including schoolchildren and political supporters, lined major roads in the city, eagerly awaiting the president’s arrival. As of press time, Tinubu had not yet landed in Lafia, but preparations were in full swing, with banners, billboards, and security personnel deployed across strategic locations.

The typically hot and sunny city experienced an unusual cool and cloudy weather, providing some relief to the waiting crowds.

Security was visibly heightened, with strict restrictions on vehicular movement in and out of Lafia. Reports indicated that security operatives harassed and brutalized several commercial motorcyclists who attempted to use restricted routes in defiance of the movement restrictions.
