Residents of Omugo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have called on the Federal Government, the state government, and security agencies to urgently secure the release of several worshippers abducted during a church programme two weeks ago.
The victims, said to be members of Evangelical Church Winning All, were reportedly kidnapped during a religious gathering, with their captors allegedly demanding a ransom of N500 million.
Speaking on behalf of the community, President of the Omugo Development Union, Thompson Oladimeji, described the situation as critical and urged authorities to act swiftly.
“We are appealing to the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and all security agencies to intervene decisively and ensure the safe return of our people,” he said.
Oladimeji stressed the need for intensified security operations, including increased patrols across vulnerable areas such as rural communities and major access routes.
He added that the impact of the abduction has been devastating, leaving families in distress and the entire community gripped by fear.
“Our hearts are heavy. Families are in deep anguish, and the entire community has been traumatised. Fear now defines our daily lives,” he said.
He further called for sustained security presence around critical locations, including worship centres and schools, warning that residents now live in constant anxiety over potential attacks.
“We need a clear and lasting strategy to prevent future occurrences in Omugo and neighbouring communities,” he added.
The community leader also highlighted the need for support for affected families, noting that many are facing emotional and financial hardship as a result of the incident.
Residents said the abduction has disrupted daily life, with people avoiding travel and public gatherings due to safety concerns.
Omugo community reiterated its appeal for urgent government action, warning that failure to respond decisively could embolden criminal elements operating in the area.
Ifelodun Local Government Area, which shares boundaries with neighbouring states, has experienced repeated security challenges in recent times, with residents often attributing the attacks to porous borders and limited security presence.
