Konate rejects Liverpool contract extension amid wage dispute

France international, Ibrahima Konate, has turned down a contract extension from Premier League titleholders Liverpool, raising questions about his long-term future at Anfield.

Konate, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2026, has yet to agree to new terms with the club despite ongoing negotiations.

This situation echoes a familiar pattern for the Reds, who recently allowed key players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold to enter the final stages of their contracts.

While Salah and van Dijk eventually committed to fresh deals, Liverpool lost academy product Alexander-Arnold on a free before Real Madrid secured his signature for an additional £10 million ahead of the Club World Cup.

Now, Arne Slot’s team faces a similar dilemma with Konate. If no agreement is reached, the 26-year-old defender will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract with other clubs from January 2026.

According to The Guardian (via Standard), Liverpool have tabled an extension offer, but Konate has “rebuffed the offer,” reportedly “disappointed” by the financial terms proposed.

The report indicates that his camp is pushing for a more lucrative salary. While Liverpool’s offer includes a pay raise, much of it is performance-incentivized, prompting Konate to weigh his alternatives carefully.

Meanwhile, another senior figure, Andy Robertson, is also approaching the final year of his deal.

The Scottish left-back has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, who are reportedly eyeing a budget-friendly addition to their defense.
