The All Progressives Congress in Kebbi State has taken disciplinary action against former House of Representatives member Muhammad Shehu Koko and nine party officials from Koko Local Government Area.
The suspension, contained in a letter obtained by Channels Television, cites allegations of anti-party activities, disloyalty, and harassment of party executives as the reason for the action.
Among those suspended are prominent party figures including Muhammad Danyado, the APC Vice Chairman of Koko LGA; Biyaminu Muhammad, the Secretary; and Talatu Zauro, the Women Leader. Other affected officials include the Youth Leader, Financial Secretary, Welfare Secretary, and several other key party members.
The suspension letter was jointly signed by the APC Local Government Party Chairman Muhammad Maibarga, the Local Government Executive Chairman Sirajo Usman Koko, and 14 other party stakeholders in the area.
Sources close to the former lawmaker, who spoke to Channels Television on condition of anonymity, suggested the suspension might be politically motivated.
They indicated that the action could be connected to Koko’s reported intention to contest for a senatorial seat, a move that has allegedly caused discomfort among some influential APC members in Kebbi State.
“The suspension may be linked to his reported intention to contest for a senatorial seat, which has allegedly unsettled certain influential figures within the APC in Kebbi State,” the sources revealed, while clarifying that they were not authorized to speak officially on behalf of the former legislator.
The development comes as the APC in Kebbi State continues to grapple with internal party dynamics ahead of future elections. While the party leadership has maintained that the suspension was necessary to maintain discipline, the move has raised questions about potential factional divisions within the state chapter. Neither the suspended members nor the state party leadership has made additional public statements regarding possible appeals or next steps in the disciplinary process.
