A 25-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, has been taken into custody by the Katsina State Police Command over the alleged murder of her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, aged 30, during a heated altercation in Daura town.

The deadly incident took place on the night of May 24, 2025, near Dadi Primary School in the Sabon Gari area of Daura. Reports indicate that an intense disagreement between the two co-wives spiraled out of control, resulting in a fatal stabbing.

Their husband, Nasir Yusuf, reportedly returned from the market around 11:00 p.m. to discover Zainab’s lifeless body riddled with stab wounds.

Upon being alerted, officers from the Daura Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrived swiftly at the scene.

Zainab was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.

Rabi’a Labaran, during police interrogation, allegedly admitted to the killing. She explained that what began as a quarrel between her and Zainab quickly turned violent, ending in tragedy.

Confirming the development, Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the incident in strong terms and called for an end to domestic violence.

“Disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Taking the law into one’s hands only deepens the crisis and erodes the rule of law,” he stated.

The command assured the public that justice will take its full course, emphasizing that investigations remain ongoing while the suspect is held in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
