The Kano State Government has issued a strong caution to health personnel against diverting medical equipment and drugs, warning that anyone involved in such misconduct will face strict consequences.
Speaking at the official launch of a statewide distribution of health intervention commodities, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, delivered the warning and reiterated the administration’s dedication to adequately equipping healthcare centers with vital medical resources.
The governor emphasized that all the distributed supplies, which are intended to tackle seven specific disease categories, must be dispensed to patients at no cost.
“We will not tolerate the diversion or misuse of these life-saving materials. Any health worker caught in such acts will face the full weight of the law,” he stated firmly.
This warning was issued during the unveiling of key health initiatives under the “Abba Gida-Gida” program, which includes dental chairs, school-based health services, complimentary eye glasses, free sickle cell treatments, diabetic test kits, and maternal healthcare packages.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, explained that the interventions are designed to benefit underserved communities and align with the administration’s overarching health agenda.
He also pointed to major accomplishments such as the refurbishment of 260 health centers and strengthened routine immunization campaigns.
Adding their voices of support, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II—represented by Alhaji Muhammad Aminu Yusuf and ALGON Chairperson Hajiya Sa’adatu Yusuf Soja both lauded the government’s efforts.
They pledged unwavering support from traditional leaders and local government authorities to help drive the success of the state’s ongoing healthcare reforms.
