Political stakeholders in Kano State have committed to a peaceful electoral process by signing a peace accord ahead of the state’s scheduled by-elections on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The agreement was reached on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Kano State Police Command at its headquarters in Bompai.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement, said the session brought together candidates and leaders of political parties participating in the re-run for Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency and the by-election for Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency.

“The meeting was aimed at fostering peace, ensuring security, and promoting strict adherence to electoral laws before, during, and after the elections. All political parties present signed the peace accord, pledging to maintain a violence-free process,” Haruna stated.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, urged parties to honour the commitments in the accord, warning that security agencies would not hesitate to take action against anyone who instigates unrest.

“We expect all campaigns and electoral activities to be conducted within the confines of the law. Any breach of peace will be met with swift and decisive enforcement,” Bakori said.

He assured voters of adequate security deployment to create a safe environment for participation, calling for full cooperation from political actors and citizens.

“Our primary responsibility is to protect lives and property. We are committed to maintaining law and order throughout the election period,” he added.

The Kano State Police Command said it remains determined to safeguard the credibility of the electoral process while preventing any breakdown of security.
