The Kaduna State Government has commenced an intensive public sensitisation campaign to mobilise residents for the ongoing identity card registration under the Kaduna State Residents Identity Management initiative.

According to The PUNCH, Dr. John Danfulani, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Residents Identity Management Agency led the awareness tour across several Chiefdoms and Emirates in Southern Kaduna, including Kachia, Kaura, Jema’a, Sanga, and Zangon Kataf. He engaged traditional rulers and local stakeholders to promote the enrolment exercise.

Speaking during a community engagement in Kachia on Thursday, Danfulani explained that the initiative aims to create a comprehensive residents’ database to enhance planning, security, financial inclusion, and access to social services.

“We want every resident of Kaduna, whether indigene or not, to be part of this programme. As long as you live in the state, this identity card is for you,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the identity card will also serve as a financial instrument, functioning as a debit or credit card to enable beneficiaries to access critical government services such as scholarships, free education, subsidised healthcare, and social welfare programs.

Danfulani dismissed speculations that the registration drive is politically motivated or aimed at revenue generation. “This is not a political move or a money-making scheme. It is a people-focused initiative designed to bring government closer to the grassroots,” he clarified.

Traditional leaders in the areas visited applauded the government for decentralising the exercise and pledged their support in mobilising community members to participate actively.

Danfulani expressed optimism that the cooperation of royal fathers and the residents would ensure the success of the initiative. “We are confident that with the support of our traditional rulers and the commitment of the people, this exercise will fulfil its purpose,” he added.

The ongoing tour underscores the state’s commitment to inclusive governance and improved access to government programs through effective identity management.
