The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has stated that popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, was in possession of alcohol in a flask while attempting to board a ValueJet flight at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
FAAN made this known on Wednesday through its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, while addressing an incident that occurred during the boarding process of ValueJet flight VK201 headed to Lagos on Monday, August 5.
According to FAAN, the music icon brought an “unidentified liquid substance” — later confirmed to be alcohol — to the boarding area and refused to comply with security protocols.
“In line with international aviation security standards — particularly Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme and ICAO Annex 17 — liquids above 100ml are not permitted unless medically justified and declared,” Orah stated.
She explained that aviation security personnel and the flight captain had warned K1 several times not to carry the substance onboard, but he allegedly declined to comply. Matters escalated when he was asked to step aside for further clarification.
“Instead of cooperating, the passenger reportedly poured the contents of the flask on one of the security officers,” Orah said.
“The Flight Captain also intervened but faced similar resistance from the passenger.”
Following the confrontation, the pilot, after ensuring all other passengers had boarded, instructed the aircraft doors to be shut.
At this point, K1 allegedly moved to the front of the aircraft and remained there despite several requests to vacate the area.
He was eventually removed from the scene by members of FAAN’s AVSEC crime unit and later released after a preliminary investigation.
FAAN emphasized that it remains committed to upholding the highest safety and operational standards at all Nigerian airports.
“The Authority will not tolerate any conduct that jeopardizes safety or violates established regulations, regardless of the identity or status of those involved,” Orah warned.
“This matter is still under investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken against anyone found culpable.”
