Joe Okojie wins PDP ticket for Edo central senatorial by-election

Mr. Joe Okojie has emerged as the People’s Democratic Party candidate for the August 16, 2025 National Assembly by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District.

The party’s caretaker committee publicity secretary, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, confirmed this development in a statement issued on Monday in Benin.

According to Nehikhare, Okojie secured victory in the PDP primary election conducted in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government Area. “Okojie emerged winner of the PDP primary election held in Ubiaja,” Nehikhare stated.

The statement revealed that Okojie defeated two other aspirants for the senatorial ticket – Mr. John Yakubu and Friday Itulah.

In a related development, the party also elected its candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency. “Mr. Johnny Aikpitanyin emerged the party’s candidate for Ovia Federal Constituency,” Nehikhare added. Aikpitanyin, who was the sole aspirant for the federal constituency seat, was elected at the primary election held in Iguobazuwa.
