Former Chelsea midfielder, Joe Cole, has criticised the Video Assistant Referee following a controversial decision in the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Fulham in Saturday’s west London derby.
Fulham thought they had gone ahead in the first half when 18-year-old forward Josh King found the back of the net.
However, referee Rob Jones was advised by VAR to review the incident on the pitchside monitor.
Replays showed that in the build-up, Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz had stepped on Trevoh Chalobah’s foot while battling for possession.
The infringement led to the referee ruling the goal out, a call that didn’t sit well with Cole.
Speaking on TNT Sports, the ex-England international said, “I don’t like it in football when you’re chalking off goals for that. It makes it too sanitised.”
Chelsea went on to secure all three points, with Joao Pedro and Enzo Fernandez scoring to seal their second win in three games at the start of the season.
