The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Muhammad Dahiru, has charged newly promoted officers of the state command to uphold the values of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the official decoration ceremony of 510 newly promoted officers at the State Police Headquarters in Dutse, CP Dahiru emphasized the need for renewed commitment to service, noting that promotion is not only a reward but also a call to greater responsibility.
The event, held on Saturday, was attended by family members, friends, and senior officers of the command. In a statement made available to journalists by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the Commissioner congratulated the officers on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, expressing confidence in their ability to rise to the expectations of their new roles.
“Promotion is not the end, but the beginning of higher responsibilities,” CP Dahiru said. “You must rededicate yourselves to the principles of service, integrity, and professionalism, which are the hallmarks of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Among the decorated officers was the outgoing Commanding Officer of 35PMF Dutse, Olufemi Akinola, who was elevated from Assistant Commissioner of Police to Deputy Commissioner of Police. Others promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police include ACP Aminu Sulaiman, ACP Baba Kura Haruna, and ACP Ahmed H. Umar.
The ceremony also saw the promotion of 23 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendent of Police, 246 Sergeants to Inspectors, and 236 Corporals to Sergeants. Some of the newly promoted officers named in the statement include INSPR Sagir Ibrahim, INSPR Muhammad Abdullahi, INSPR Jamilu Ali, and SGT Musa Abubakar.
In his remarks on behalf of the promotees, DCP Akinola expressed appreciation to the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Command’s leadership.
“We are deeply honoured by this recognition and the trust placed in us. I assure you that we will continue to discharge our duties with commitment, integrity, and respect for the communities we serve,” Akinola stated.
The ceremony was marked by joy and celebration as officers took photographs and shared moments with their loved ones. Many family members described the promotions as a deserving reward for years of dedication and service.
CP Dahiru concluded by urging the officers to see the promotion as a motivation to contribute more meaningfully to policing in Jigawa State, adding, “Your elevation should reflect positively on your performance and on the overall image of the Nigeria Police Force.”
