Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has shared a deeply personal moment with her daughter, Michelle, revealing she recently apologised for her strict parenting style.
The 47-year-old actress opened up during a film premiere in Lagos, reflecting on her journey as a single mother and how her struggles shaped her approach to raising her child.
“Three days ago, I had to send her an apology text,” Mercy confessed during a press interview. “I told her, ‘I’m sorry. You might think the upbringing I gave you was hard.’ And yes, it was. I won’t lie—it was harsh. But I raised a vessel for God.”
The actress recounted a poignant moment that highlighted the lasting impact of her parenting. After Michelle failed to return her call, Mercy reached out through a friend, prompting an emotional response from her daughter. Michelle revealed she still carried trauma from an incident where Mercy had struck her with a bucket.
Mercy’s revelation comes as she stars in the upcoming film *My Mother Is a Witch*, which explores themes of family trauma, buried secrets, and the healing power of forgiveness—a narrative that mirrors her own experiences.
Produced by Anthill Studios in collaboration with Frame Flix HQ, the movie features Mercy Aigbe alongside Efe Irele, Timini Egbuson, and Neo Akpofure. It is set for release on May 23.
