Former Manchester United winger, Ashley Young, has officially signed a one-year contract with Ipswich Town, bringing his wealth of top-flight experience to the Championship side.
Following his departure from Everton at the end of last season, Young was a free agent. He now joins an Ipswich team looking to bounce back after their relegation from the Premier League.
“Ipswich Town is delighted to announce the signing of Ashley Young,” read a statement from the club on their official website.
“Ashley joins on a one-year deal having spent the vast majority of his career in the Premier League with the likes of Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Everton.
“He has made a total of 750 career club appearances to date, scoring 88 goals, and won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford. Now a wide midfielder or full-back, Ashley also won a Serie A title during a spell in Italy with Inter Milan.
“He made his England debut against Austria in November 2007 and won a total of 39 caps for his country, scoring seven goals.
“Ashley has spent the last two seasons with Everton, making 32 Premier League appearances during 2024/25, largely as a right-back. He brings versatility, quality, and experience to the Town squad.”
Young’s journey began at Watford, where he rose through the ranks and helped secure promotion to the Premier League in 2006 via the Championship Play-Offs.
His impressive performances earned him a move to Aston Villa midway through the 2006/07 season, where he quickly became their record signing and a pivotal figure, amassing nearly 200 appearances.
In 2011, Young sealed a transfer to Manchester United. During his eight-year stint at Old Trafford, he featured in 261 matches and claimed several major honours including the Premier League (2012/13), FA Cup (2015/16), League Cup, and Europa League (both in 2016/17).
A move to Inter Milan followed in January 2020, where he played a role in securing the Serie A title in 2020/21, making him just the third Englishman to lift the Italian championship.
Young made his return to English football in 2021, rejoining Aston Villa before later switching to Everton in 2023.
Internationally, he earned 39 caps for England and scored seven goals. He was part of the squad at EURO 2012 and was a regular starter during the Three Lions’ run to the semi-finals at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
