Inter Milan are keeping a close eye on Andre Onana’s situation at Manchester United amid uncertainty over the goalkeeper’s long-term future.
The Cameroon international was absent from United’s matchday squad in Sunday’s Premier League opener against Arsenal, a game Erik ten Hag’s men lost at Old Trafford. After the defeat, assistant coach Ruben Amorim clarified that Onana’s omission was due to lingering fitness concerns, not a tactical decision.
Even so, speculation continues to swirl around the 29-year-old, whose inconsistent displays last season first triggered doubts about his place at the club.
According to reports, former club Inter Milan are exploring the possibility of bringing him back to the San Siro.
Onana left the Nerazzurri in a £47m switch to United last summer, shortly after starring in Inter’s run to the 2023 Champions League final, where they fell narrowly to Manchester City.
He remains highly regarded by the Inter faithful for that campaign, and senior figures at the club believe he could be tempted by a reunion.
Since Onana’s exit, Inter turned to Yann Sommer between the sticks. The Swiss shot-stopper impressed in Europe but endured a heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in last year’s Champions League final.
Following that setback, manager Simone Inzaghi departed for Saudi side Al Hilal, with Christian Chivu taking over and already eyeing a reshuffle in goal.
Meanwhile, Inter are also in discussions with Royal Antwerp over Belgian keeper Senne Lammens – a player Manchester United themselves have shown interest in.
