Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party chieftain Peter Obi has said he is financially comfortable and considers himself a millionaire by global standards, while stressing that he prefers a modest lifestyle.
Obi made the remark during a recent public appearance, where he clarified that he has never portrayed himself as poor but has chosen to live simply despite his financial standing.
“I have never described myself as a poor person,” he said.
“I am comfortable. By global measures, if someone has up to a million dollars, they are regarded as a millionaire, and I fall into that category. But I don’t see any reason to show it off.”
The former presidential candidate explained that his approach to personal lifestyle aligns with his long-standing advocacy for prudence in public office and responsible management of resources.
“My belief has always been that leadership should be about accountability and careful use of public funds,” Obi added.
“Living modestly is a personal choice, and it reflects the values I promote in governance.”
Obi has consistently projected himself as a proponent of fiscal discipline, transparency, and frugal leadership, themes that have remained central to his public messaging over the years.
