Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that if music hadn’t shaped his life, journalism would have been his alternative career path.
The multi-award-winning artist shared this revelation during a recent interview on Atlanta’s 96.1 The Beat, a conversation that has since sparked widespread buzz on social media.
“I’ve always loved conversations and media interactions,” Davido said. “Many people don’t know I studied marketing in addition to business management. I enjoy promoting myself, and I like to talk. If I had a podcast, I could talk for three or four days straight,” he laughed.
Davido emphasized his enthusiasm for engaging with the press—an effort he noted sets him apart from many of his colleagues. “A lot of big artists don’t like doing press, but I do it because I can talk,” he explained. “When people meet me, I like to have conversations, I like learning, I like information. Even at home, I’m constantly researching.”
The “With You” crooner added that his dedication to consistent media engagement is one reason he commands a massive social media following. “People ask why I have the most followers—it’s because I put in the work. Some people just sit and expect things to happen. But I work.”
Drawing inspiration from global music icon Beyoncé, he said, “I know how hard Beyoncé works despite all the money she has.”
In the video accompanying the interview, Davido reiterated: “If I weren’t a musician, I’d definitely be a journalist.”
The artist’s candid reflections highlight the increasing intersection between entertainment and media, and his words have resonated with fans who admire his work ethic and authenticity.
