Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed her remarkable journey from humble beginnings to continental football stardom, recalling how she once sold olive oil and local drinks like kunu and zobo on church premises before achieving sporting fame.
The Atletico Madrid forward shared her testimony on Saturday during the August edition of the “Power Must Change Hands” program at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries’ Prayer City in Ogun State.
Ajibade, who recently led Nigeria to its record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco, opened up about the spiritual discipline and perseverance that shaped her path to success. “Whenever things are tough at my club or with the national team, I pray. I do my part through hard work but never forget to seek God’s help,” she told the congregation.
The football star painted a vivid picture of her early struggles, stating, “I was once one of those young girls out there hawking Olive oil, Kunu and Zobo drinks in most of the deliverance programmes, but today, I give glory to God.” She offered encouragement to others facing challenges, urging, “Please, don’t give up, keep praying, keep fasting, keep working and keep believing.”
Ajibade’s inspirational story followed her outstanding WAFCON performance where she emerged as Player of the Tournament and collected three Woman of the Match awards. While scoring just once during the competition, her leadership and overall contribution proved instrumental in Nigeria’s championship victory, capping an extraordinary journey from street hawker to national football icon.
