Nigerian singer, Jodie, has opened up about her struggles as a single mother and the financial challenges she faced despite her music success.
In a revealing interview on Yanga 89.9FM, the singer disclosed that she never received a dime from her viral hit song, “Kuchi Kuchi,” while her estranged husband continues to collect royalties.
The singer, who divorced actor David Nnaji when their son was just two months old, explained how she invested her own money into recording the track.
“The song Kuchi Kuchi went viral worldwide, but I have not received a single naira from it till today,” Jodie lamented. “My ex-husband abandoned me and my baby.
Jodie further revealed that she attempted to claim her rightful earnings, even hiring a lawyer to secure the royalties, but all efforts proved futile.
On her personal life, the singer reflected on the difficulties of raising a child with special needs.
“It has not been easy, but I thank God. The journey has its ups and downs, but we keep moving forward,” she said.
She also spoke candidly about her ex-husband’s accusations, saying he left her because he believed she was mentally unstable.
“Despite calling me mentally unstable, he still left our son with a mentally unstable woman,” she added.
Jodie, who described herself as once a shy person, noted that the challenges she has faced have helped her grow stronger.
“The person who sang Kuchi Kuchi was shy, but today, I am a strong woman,” she concluded.
