The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday declared that peace has finally returned to his home state of Rivers, insisting that he does not owe anyone an explanation on the specific terms that brought about the truce.
Wike made this known during a media chat monitored in Abuja.
According to the FCT Minister, many individuals had been exploiting the crisis in Rivers State for personal gain, describing the situation as an “oil well” from which they were illegally drawing funds to serve their selfish interests. He said these so-called fifth columnists are now displeased with the reconciliation between him and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
“Several people had turned the crisis in Rivers State into an oil well, from which they were drawing illicit funds for their selfish interests,” Wike stated. “Such fifth columnists are no longer happy that I have reconciled with the suspended Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.”
He maintained that having achieved peace in the state, he was under no obligation to explain the details of the agreement to anyone.
“Peace has returned to Rivers State, and I do not owe anybody any explanation on the terms of the truce,” Wike declared.
