I don’t have a birthday, says Mariah Carey

Award-winning pop icon Mariah Carey has once again expressed her unconventional view on aging and time — this time, in a recent interview with Capital FM, where she boldly declared, “I don’t have a birthday.”

During her appearance on the British radio show on Monday, June 16, Carey was asked directly whether she acknowledged the passing of time. Without hesitation, the 56-year-old singer confirmed, “That is true.”

When pressed to explain, she offered a simple but bold statement: “I just don’t believe in it.” Asked if her disbelief extended to clocks and time zones, Carey added, “No, just time… just let it go.”

As the hosts questioned how she celebrates milestones if she doesn’t mark birthdays, Carey clarified that she only observes anniversaries. “I don’t have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes,” she said.

In a lighthearted exchange, when one host wondered how people would coordinate meeting with her if she doesn’t follow time, another quipped, “It’s on Mariah’s time,” to which Carey agreed and playfully responded, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”

This isn’t the first time the “Fantasy” singer has publicly dismissed the concept of age and time. In a 2014 interview with Out Magazine, she joked, “I’m eternally 12 years old.” Two years later, while speaking to Complex, Carey claimed, “I was just dropped here. It was a fairyland experience.”

In 2019, she reiterated the sentiment in an interview with Variety, stating her “true fans” know she doesn’t age. “I celebrate life, darling,” she famously remarked.

Carey’s refusal to recognize birthdays is part of a broader image she has cultivated — one that embraces glamour, mystery, and a timeless persona. She is currently gearing up to release her sixteenth studio album, expected later in 2025.
