Nigeria's Junior Basketball Team D'Tigress

The Hungary basketball team on Wednesday defeated Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress 77-51, eliminating them from the ongoing FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Czechia.

The Nigerian team struggled throughout the game, overwhelmed by their opponents. They started strongly, tying the first quarter 9-9, but collapsed in the second quarter, losing 12-30. A brief resurgence in the third quarter saw them score 15-16, but the effort was insufficient to challenge Hungary’s dominance. The European side sealed their victory with a 16-15 finish in the fourth quarter.

Hungary’s Kinga Jisepovits led her team with 19 points, while teammate Eliza Farbas dominated the rebounds with 13. For Nigeria, Tobenna Nweke was the top scorer with 12 points, and Francis Chukwu contributed 9 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Nigeria made history as the first African team to win a match in the tournament’s history and advance to the round of 16. Their exit marks the end of a groundbreaking campaign for the Junior D’Tigress.
