Hull City unsure over injured Semi Ajayi’s return date

Hull City boss, Sergej Jakirovic, has admitted he is unsure when Semi Ajayi, will be fit enough to return from injury.

Ajayi picked up a hamstring problem in training shortly after impressing in Hull’s opening-day stalemate with Coventry City.

Since then, the Nigerian international has been sidelined, missing the Tigers’ last five Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

The 31-year-old defender was also absent from Nigeria’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa.

With Hull set to face Watford in their next league outing, Jakirovic explained that the club’s medical team is taking no risks with Ajayi’s recovery.

“I don’t know – maybe. 70, 80 per cent [chance]. Our doctors are very careful. They don’t want to push anybody. If you’re asking me, they will be ready. I’m fighting all the time with them,” Jakirovic told Yorkshire Post.

Ajayi, who joined Hull City on a free transfer this summer after six years at West Bromwich Albion, has been a big miss in defence.

His absence has coincided with a leaky spell for the Tigers, who have conceded 13 goals across their last five league games.
