How Many City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth reshapes UCL qualification battle

Manchester City wrapped up their final Premier League home game of the season with a commanding 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

The result puts Pep Guardiola’s side in a favourable position to clinch third place and confirm their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Currently, City are in a heated race with Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest for three remaining Champions League spots, which will all be decided on the final day this Sunday.

Following the win, City now have 68 points, two ahead of Newcastle, Chelsea, and Villa, while Forest trail slightly with one point less.

A win at Fulham on Sunday would lock down third place for City. Even a draw might be enough thanks to their superior goal difference.

A loss might even be enough, but it would open the door for their rivals.

Newcastle, sitting in fourth place, will welcome Everton. A win will keep the Magpies in the Champions League spots and a draw could be enough, but it could allow those below them to take advantage.

Chelsea, currently fifth, face a tricky trip to Nottingham Forest, who have been tough to beat at home, losing only four times all season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side need to win. If so, they would leapfrog the Blues, but they would still need Villa to slip up if they were to jump from seventh to fifth.
