How Buhari saved Nnamdi Kanu from elimination

A former Presidential aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, has revealed how former President Muhammadu Buhari stopped the elimination of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, from his hideout.

Adesina in his new book, said the then government would have eliminated Kanu but Buhari prevented such a move from happening.

The former presidential aide in his book: “Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023),” which was launched in Abuja last week, said Buhari did Kanu a big favour by allowing his extradition to Nigeria.

Making this known during a meeting with some Igbo delegation under the aegis of ‘Highly-Respected Igbo Greats’, Buhari’s former aide quoted his former principal, telling the delegation, “In the past six years, I have developed a system in which I don’t interfere with the judiciary. That was why in the case of Kanu, I said the best way was to subject him to the system.

“Let him make his case in court instead of giving a terrible impression of the country from outside.

“I feel it is a favour to give him (Kanu) that opportunity. The government could have mobilized to eliminate him where he was, but we did not do that.”

It would be recalled that Kanu in June 2021, was extradited from Kenya to Nigeria, after being subjected to an extraordinary rendition from the country, to continue his trial for terrorism.

The situation happened as a result of him, jumping his bail conditions, to escape from Nigeria, with the help of the IPOB members.
