Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles are set to lock horns with Zanzibar today (Monday) in a preparatory friendly match ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship.
The encounter, scheduled to kick off at 2pm Nigerian time, marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides at any level of international football.
The friendly is one of two lined up against the East Africans, with a second fixture set for Thursday.
Both games are part of Nigeria’s final warm-up schedule before the CHAN tournament begins this weekend.
The Eagles, under the guidance of coach Eric Chelle, arrived in Zanzibar last Thursday after completing three preparatory matches on home soil.
They now aim to fine-tune their strategies against Zanzibar before heading into competitive action.
Nigeria has been drawn into a tough Group D, where they will battle defending champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Congo, for a spot in the knockout stage of the biennial continental tournament.
