As preparations intensify for the 2024 African Nations Championship, home-based Super Eagles players Godwin Obaje, Haruna Hadi, and Kabiru Mohammed are fully focused on making their mark at the continental showpiece.

Under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, the team commenced training camp last week in Ikenne, Ogun State.

A total of 28 players are currently in contention for spots in the final squad that will represent Nigeria at the tournament.

Rangers FC striker Godwin Obaje expressed confidence in the unity and determination within the squad.

“We’re all familiar faces from different clubs, and the bond is strong — like brothers,” Obaje told Super Eagles media. “I’m really looking forward to CHAN. I’m ready to give everything because Nigeria is one of the top teams in Africa. Our preparation has been serious and intense.”

His sentiments were echoed by Remo Stars’ Haruna Hadi, a key figure in the club’s title-winning campaign last season. For Hadi, CHAN represents both a personal dream and a career-defining opportunity.

“I know what I bring to the team — I’m focused and determined,” he said. “It’s always been my dream to play for the Super Eagles and feature at CHAN. This means everything to me. It’s a stepping stone to greater things.”

Kwara United’s Kabiru Mohammed also highlighted the demanding training sessions under Chelle’s leadership.

“The coach demands a high press and aggressive play,” Mohammed noted. “Training has been tough but purposeful. He wants intensity whenever we lose possession.”

Nigeria will compete in Group D of the CHAN finals alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. The home-based Eagles will begin their campaign against Senegal on Tuesday, August 7, at Amman Stadium in Zanzibar.

The 2024 CHAN tournament — strictly for players active in their domestic leagues — will be jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.
