Gunmen kill Anambra community leader

The President-General of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ikwuka Okoye, popularly known as Anumili, was killed alongside another man in a suspected cult-related attack.

The incident reportedly occurred late on Friday at the School Field, Ogidi, and is believed to have been carried out by members of a rival cult group seeking revenge for the death of their leader, who was recently apprehended and killed by local security operatives.

Eyewitnesses described the attack as brazen and violent. One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Daredevil gunmen stormed our community last night. By the time they left, Sir Ikwuka Okoye and a relative of his were lying dead at the School Field.

The whole town is in shock.”

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, linked the killings to the recent neutralization of a notorious cultist in the area.

Ikenga said, “The Anambra State Police Command deeply regrets the murder of the President-General of Ogidi community and another individual. Police have taken control of the scene and are working with eyewitnesses and intelligence to identify and apprehend those responsible. Residents are urged to remain calm and assist law enforcement as the investigation continues.”

The attack has sparked outrage among residents and local leaders, many of whom condemned the killings and described Okoye as a duly elected and respected community leader.
