Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday officially administered the oath of office to Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (retd.), appointing him as the new Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.
The inauguration was held at Kwankwasiyya City during the commencement of the 28th meeting of the Kano State Executive Council.
This development was made public in a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Speaking during the event, Yusuf noted that the selection of AVM Umaru was grounded in merit, highlighting his capacity to oversee and streamline the operations of security agencies across the state.
“AVM Ibrahim’s expertise in handling critical security roles, along with his distinguished military career marked by discipline, dedication, and unwavering service, makes him an ideal candidate to lead our internal security efforts,” the governor explained.
He further charged the newly sworn-in commissioner to deploy his extensive experience in tackling security concerns, emphasizing, “I also expect him to work tirelessly to ensure that Kano remains a safe and prosperous place for all its citizens.”
Prior to this appointment, Umaru served as the Director-General of the Special Services Directorate at the Kano State Government House.
The retired Nigerian Air Force officer boasts a wealth of experience in peacekeeping missions and national engagements both within and outside the country.
In his new role, Umaru will be tasked with overseeing the coordination of security agencies and collaborating with local communities to build trust and enhance public confidence in Kano State’s security framework.
