Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Bala as the new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Before his elevation, Dr. Bala served as the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Hospital Management Services Board, where he was credited with significant contributions toward improving secondary healthcare delivery across the state.
Announcing the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, said the move aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s health system following the successful hosting of the maiden Gombe State Health Summit.
Abdullahi noted that the appointment was part of a broader strategy to sustain the administration’s reforms in the health sector.
He said, “The approval and implementation of the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures for health workers, alongside Governor Yahaya’s comprehensive reforms, made it necessary to enhance leadership within the Ministry of Health through the appointment of a seasoned medical professional as Permanent Secretary.”
In a related development, Governor Yahaya also appointed Dr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, who previously served as Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Health, as the new Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Hospital Management Services Board.
According to the statement, “Dr. Abdulkadir brings years of experience in clinical practice, health administration, and policy implementation to his new role. His appointment is expected to build on the achievements of his predecessor and enhance service delivery across hospitals in the state.”
The Head of Service expressed confidence that both appointees would justify the trust reposed in them and contribute meaningfully to sustaining the current administration’s transformation agenda in the health sector.
The appointments take immediate effect.
