The Premier League has unveiled its 2025 shortlist for induction into the Hall of Fame, with former Manchester United stars Patrice Evra and Teddy Sheringham making their debut appearances among the nominees.
However, the announcement has once again reignited debate as Ryan Giggs remains absent from the 15-man list.
The Welshman, one of United’s most decorated players, has never been considered for the honour since the Hall of Fame launched in 2021.
Giggs’ omission is widely linked to his turbulent personal life. Over the years, he has faced damaging headlines over an affair with his brother’s wife, a relationship with ex–Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas, and the breakdown of his marriage.
His managerial career also ended abruptly after his 2020 arrest on suspicion of assault.
Although he was cleared in 2023 when his former partner Kate Greville withdrew her accusations, he has yet to return to management, currently serving instead as Director of Football at Salford City.
In contrast, several of Giggs’ old teammates remain firmly in contention. Evra and Sheringham join a competitive field that includes Gary Neville, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar and Michael Owen. Other nominees are Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva and Yaya Toure.
The final inductees will join an elite group celebrating the Premier League’s most influential figures, though once again, without one of its most decorated players.
