Getafe coach Bordalás rejects Uche’s exit amid Wolves interest

Getafe head coach, José Bordalás, has made it clear that he does not want Nigeria international Chrisantus Uche to leave the club.

Speaking after Monday’s 2-1 La Liga victory over Sevilla, Bordalás emphasized that Uche remains a key figure in his plans.

He warned that letting the midfielder depart would cause significant disruption to the squad.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t leave. I’m against him leaving; he’s a very important player, and this becomes more difficult every day,” Bordalás said following the match.

“We can’t start from scratch every season, without knowing the squad we’ll have. If Uche leaves, we have a very serious problem. I understand the situation, but we can’t be at the mercy of selling a player as important as Uche.”

Despite reports suggesting a move was imminent, Uche played the full 90 minutes against Sevilla.

Wolves are reportedly close to agreeing on a fee of just under €20 million for the Nigerian, who is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Premier League side.

Getafe president Ángel Torres has also addressed Uche’s situation, admitting that financial rules leave the club with little choice but to consider selling.

Last season, Uche featured in 33 La Liga matches, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

He is set to be part of the Super Eagles squad for next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, and he played a role in Nigeria’s Unity Cup triumph in May.
