Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has accused the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, of plotting to demolish some of his properties in Sagamu, describing the move as politically motivated.
Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State (2003–2011), raised the alarm in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta by his media aide, Steve Oliyide.
According to him, the Ogun State Planning and Development Authority, in a letter dated August 8, 2025, served notices on three of his properties, alleging that they were constructed without proper permits and setbacks.
The affected buildings are his private residence, Asoludero Court, located along Obafemi Awolowo Road, Sagamu; Conference Hotel Limited, Sagamu; and Conference Hotel Annex, also in Sagamu.
Daniel described the development as “the height of political persecution,” claiming the government’s actions were an abuse of power under the guise of enforcing the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 — a law he said did not exist when the buildings were erected.
“It is laughable to suggest that these buildings lack proper approval,” the statement read. “Asoludero Court was completed in 2004, Conference Hotel Sagamu in 2013, and the Annex in 2015 — all long before this law came into effect.”
He accused Governor Abiodun’s administration of skipping due process by issuing a Notice of Contravention and a Quit Notice simultaneously, along with immediate threats of demolition.
“This is not enforcement of the law; it is a crude intimidation tactic,” Daniel stated.
The senator also recalled the September 2023 demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode, owned by his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, which he alleged was carried out at midnight by individuals acting on the governor’s orders.
He noted that the matter remains in court, with the state losing multiple applications both at the Ogun State High Court and the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.
Daniel called on human rights groups, legal bodies, and concerned Nigerians to condemn what he termed a “dangerous escalation of political vendetta” in the state.
“We will resist this injustice with every legal means available,” he vowed.
