Tyson Fury has declared that the only reason he would consider returning to the boxing ring is to complete a trilogy against Oleksandr Usyk in England, the United Kingdom.
The former world heavyweight champion, known as the ‘Gypsy King,’ retired from the sport in February after suffering back-to-back defeats to the Ukrainian southpaw, the first losses of his professional career.
Despite heavy speculation linking him to a blockbuster two-fight series with Anthony Joshua, Fury has distanced himself from any talks regarding that potential showdown.
Although he’s maintained that retirement was the right decision, Fury previously hinted at a lingering sense of unfinished business with Usyk. He firmly believes he won both previous bouts and is eager to set the record straight, ideally on home soil.
“If I was gonna come back, I’d come back for Usyk,” Fury stated.
“But I want a fair result in England. That’d be the one I want, immediately. That’d be the fight that I’d want next.
“In England. I only want a f*****g fair fight! I don’t want any favours, I want a fair fight, a fair result.
“I thought I won it [the rematch] by five rounds. I’ve watched it literally 250 times, and each way, I never, ever see it as there’s a way for him to win.
“But, they can do what they want. If they say it’s Tuesday, it’s Tuesday.”
The controversial decisions in their two fights, including Usyk’s dominant performance in their first clash and his narrow win in the rematch, have left Fury feeling hard done by.
Meanwhile, Usyk is set to return to action later this month, defending his undisputed titles in a massive showdown against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on July 19.
A victory for Usyk, however, could complicate plans for a third meeting with Fury, as WBO mandatory challenger Joseph Parker waits in the wings. Still, at 38, Usyk might opt to relinquish his belts in favour of one final legacy-defining bout.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the Ukrainian champion hinted he’s open to it:
“If Tyson Fury back with his career, maybe we organise one more fight.
“No problem, I’m ready. Wembley, [or Old Trafford] yes.”
