The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Ihunwo Chijioke, has predicted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will face significant challenges in his bid for re-election in 2027.

Speaking at a meeting with the Akpor Unity Forum, a socio-political group in the area, Ihunwo emphasised that the upcoming election would be crucial not only for Fubara’s political future but also for the state’s resources and overall well-being.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ofonime Okon, Ihunwo stressed the importance of unity and loyalty among the governor’s supporters, acknowledging that some individuals may choose to distance themselves from Fubara for personal reasons as the election approaches.

He urged those present to remain steadfast in their support, pointing out that the governor’s focus remains on the betterment of Rivers State and its people.

Ihunwo also called on the group to spread the governor’s message throughout the Akpor kingdom in the lead-up to the election.

In addition, Ihunwo reiterated his commitment to involving members of the Akpor Unity Forum in the administration of the local council. He assured them that they would be included in the council’s decision-making process and offered potential roles as aides or committee members, aimed at promoting further development in the area.

Ihunwo emphasized that these opportunities would help to enhance progress in Obio/Akpor and ensure the local government continues to thrive.

He said, “I know that some of the people currently supporting Fubara will ditch us before the next general elections in 2027; maybe for some personal and selfish reasons, but I urge you all to remain firm and loyal to my leader because his priority is Rivers State and its people. I plead with you to take the governor’s message to the nooks and crannies of the Akpor kingdom.

“You can take it for granted that we will, as an administration, carry you along in what we do in the council. It can come in any shape, be it appointment as aides or as members of committees all geared towards enhancing development in our council” Ihunwo assured.
