Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed profound gratitude to the people of the state for their continuous trust in his administration.
He made these remarks while commissioning the third fire service station within a week, underscoring his commitment to the safety and well-being of Rivers residents.
Speaking during the event, Governor Fubara emphasized that the core duty of any government is to protect lives and property. He assured the people of Rivers that his administration remains resolute in fulfilling this responsibility. “We can feel your support here. I want to also appreciate the support of the good people of Rivers State, who kept believing in us. We know that your trust is the right thing, and that you are standing on the side of truth. I want to assure you that we will continue to do what is right to make life better and advance the State,” Fubara said.
The Governor also highlighted the significance of the newly improved Fire Service Station in Rumuodumaya, which he noted would enhance the response time to fire emergencies, helping to safeguard lives and property in Obio/Akpor and surrounding areas. “I feel very happy again to stand before you to showcase, again, one of the things that we have done to show that the interest of our people is most important in our administration,” he added.
Governor Fubara pointed out that the newly unveiled station is part of a larger effort to improve public safety in the state, noting that it is the third such station to be inaugurated in recent days. He further explained that the newly rehabilitated station in Rumuodumaya includes 54 offices, staff quarters, brand new fire trucks, and a 45,000-litre water tank.
The Governor’s efforts were praised by Woko, a special guest and key stakeholder from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, who commended him for implementing people-centered projects despite ongoing political challenges in the state. Woko expressed the community’s unwavering support for Governor Fubara and emphasized the importance of equity, particularly in allowing Governor Fubara, an Ijaw, to complete his tenure.
“Equity and fair play demand that we allow our Ijaw Ethnic Group to serve out their tenure,” Woko said. He also urged Rivers residents to prioritize the collective interest of the state over personal ambitions, citing other states, such as Lagos, as examples of smooth governance transitions.
Additionally, Woko emphasized the significance of having a functional fire service station, saying, “A state without a functional fire service station is partially a failed state, because its citizens will only rely on the mercy of God to combat fire incidences.”
Rivers State Commissioner for Duties, Dr. Samuel Anya, provided further details about the project, explaining that the Rumuodumaya Fire Service Sub-Station had been abandoned since its construction under former Governor Chibuike Amaechi. He commended Governor Fubara for rehabilitating and revitalizing the station, ensuring that it now functions optimally to serve the community and surrounding areas.
