French court jails two over Donnarumma’s home robbery

Manchester City goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner, Alessia Elefante, have seen two men jailed over a violent robbery at their Paris home in 2023.

Ilyas Kherbouch, 21, described by prosecutors as the mastermind of the operation, was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined €80,000 by the Paris Criminal Court on Friday.

His co-defendant, Moktar D., was handed a five-year prison sentence, with two years suspended subject to probation.

A third defendant, Khyan M., was acquitted after prosecutors had accused him of helping organise the robbery from his prison cell.

Donnarumma and Elefante, who were engaged at the time and are now married, were attacked at their luxury ninth-floor apartment on Avenue Montaigne in central Paris in the early hours of July 21, 2023.

The Italy international, who was playing for Paris Saint-Germain at the time, was dragged from bed and beaten by the masked attackers, while Elefante was choked with a phone charging cable.

The couple were also bound and threatened at knifepoint during the ordeal.

The robbers reportedly escaped with cash, jewellery, watches and luxury bags worth almost €1m, according to an estimate given by Donnarumma.

Elefante later suffered a miscarriage, which was attributed to the trauma of the attack.

Prosecutors had sought prison terms of between four and 10 years for the three defendants, describing the robbery as part of a violent and lucrative form of crime targeting wealthy residents in the exclusive neighbourhood.

Kherbouch and Khyan had denied involvement in organising the operation, despite messages and images recovered from phones they used while in custody.

Moktar, who was the only defendant alleged to have been at the scene, claimed he was merely acting as a lookout.
