A four-storey building collapsed on Saturday in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State, leaving several occupants trapped and raising fears of possible fatalities.
The uncompleted structure, which reportedly housed the popular Equal Right Restaurant, came crashing down around 11 a.m., causing panic and confusion among residents in the vicinity.
An eyewitness, Femi Saheed, who was present at the scene, confirmed the timing of the incident. “The incident happened at about 11a.m., today,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, who had been alerted to the situation, were yet to arrive at the site of the collapse.
Efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble were being hampered by the absence of immediate emergency response, even as onlookers and sympathisers gathered at the scene, expressing concerns over the safety of those inside the building at the time of its collapse.
The full extent of casualties or injuries remains unclear as rescue operations are yet to commence.
