Four persons have been confirmed dead and two others injured in a fatal road accident involving two commercial vehicles at Idi-Ori, along the new Ibadan-Oyo Expressway in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved a yellow Volvo vehicle and a DAF truck.

The two injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses at the scene blamed the crash on an obstruction along the road. One of them, Adekunle Adeleke, popularly known as “God dey,” explained that the crash was sudden and devastating.

“There were six people involved in the accident. Sadly, four of them died on the spot. The other two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to UCH for treatment,” he said.

Another witness, Taofeek Akinola, said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police responded promptly to the crash.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Rosemary Alo, said the accident scene was close to a police post, which enabled a quick response.

“The Police handled the evacuation of the victims. The corpses were taken to the University College Hospital morgue in Ibadan, and the vehicles causing obstruction have been cleared from the road,” Alo said.

She added that personnel from FRSC’s Moniya Unit (RS11.39) were on-site to manage traffic and ensure safety.

Alo also issued a warning to motorists, urging them to exercise caution while driving.

“Drivers must be vigilant and avoid any form of reckless behavior on the highways. Lives can be lost in a split second,” she cautioned.
