The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that four people lost their lives in a tragic motor accident on Sunday along the Lokoja–Ajaokuta road in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, told newsmen that seven other individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees in the crash.
He explained that the accident involved an 18-seater Toyota commercial bus and occurred in Jimgbe Community, located on the Ajaokuta–Lokoja road in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
According to Etuku, the injured were promptly rescued by FRSC personnel and taken to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the four deceased were deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The sector commander provided more context, revealing that the bus, with Abuja registration number ABC 232 XA, was traveling from Enugu to Abuja when the tragedy occurred.
He said, “The driver, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming truck, rammed into a faulty stationary truck.”
Describing the accident as very unfortunate, Etuku urged all motorists to exercise caution while on the roads. He said, “This is because there is a big difference between a free motoring environment and a safe motoring environment. Therefore, drivers must always be alert while driving on the highways.”
