The National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that at least 165 people have lost their lives due to flooding incidents recorded across Nigeria in 2025.
In a report released through its data dashboard on Friday, the agency disclosed that a total of 119,791 individuals have been impacted by floods this year. Among them, 138 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while 82 remain unaccounted for.
According to the report, 43,936 people have been displaced, with 8,594 houses damaged and 8,278 farmlands destroyed across 43 Local Government Areas in 19 states.
“The floods have taken a significant toll on vulnerable groups,” NEMA stated. “Out of those affected, 53,314 are children, 36,573 are women, 24,600 are men, 5,304 are elderly persons, and 1,863 are persons with disabilities.”
The states most affected by the disaster include Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna.
NEMA further listed the 19 states experiencing the worst impacts as: Abia, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto.
In a statement, a NEMA official emphasized the need for urgent intervention, saying, “We are calling on relevant stakeholders to collaborate in providing relief and ensuring long-term measures to reduce future disasters.”
